Free WordPress Accessibility Checker & Fixer – No Overlay Widget

Free WordPress Accessibility Checker That Fixes Problems at the Source

AccessPilot is a free WordPress accessibility checker that finds common WCAG 2.2 AA failures in your content and helps you fix them where they start: missing alt text, poor colour contrast, skipped headings, empty links and buttons, unlabeled form fields and vague link text.

It doesn’t add an overlay widget, and it makes no external requests. Fixes go into your real content, so they help every visitor.

Why fix accessibility at the source

Overlay widgets sit on top of a page and try to patch it in the browser. AccessPilot works the other way: it shows you exactly which post, image or field has a problem and lets you correct it in WordPress, so the page itself is accessible.

Who AccessPilot is for

  • Site owners who want their content usable by everyone
  • Agencies that check client sites before launch
  • Writers and editors who want to catch problems while they work

What’s included in the free version

  • Alt text checks: finds images with no alt text, and linked images whose empty alt leaves the link with no name.
  • Colour contrast: checks WCAG AA contrast from inline colours, block colour classes and your theme.json palette.
  • Heading order: flags skipped heading levels and empty headings.
  • Empty links and buttons, plus form fields with no label.
  • Vague link text: catches “click here” and “read more”.
  • Block editor sidebar: scan the post you’re editing and fix image alt text on the spot.
  • Site-wide report: background batch scanning with progress, a sortable list and per-item re-scan.
  • One-click alt text fixes from the Media Library, the Alt Text screen and the report.
  • Front-end fixes you can switch on: skip link, visible focus outline, underlined content links and more.
  • Accessibility statement generator: create a statement page or use the [accesspilot_statement] shortcode.

Tips for getting the most from AccessPilot

Run the site-wide report first, then sort by issue type and start with missing alt text, because it’s the fastest to fix and affects the most visitors. Next, check colour contrast against your theme palette, since one palette change can fix many pages at once. Use the editor sidebar on new posts so problems don’t come back. Finally, generate an accessibility statement so visitors know how to contact you if something is still hard to use.
